Check the UV map of a 3D model

A checker texture shows stretching, distortion and mirrored islands at a glance. Open the 2D layout to see how each mesh uses the 0–1 texture space.

How it works

  1. 01

Drop a model that has UV coordinates.

  2. 02

The checker is applied automatically. Squares should look square and even in size across the surface.

  3. 03

In Diagnostics pick a mesh to see its UV layout.

Questions

What do stretched squares mean?+

The UV island is scaled unevenly there. Textures will look blurry or smeared in those areas: unwrap again or give that part more texture space.

Why is the UV layout empty?+

The mesh has no UV coordinates. STL files and point clouds never have them; other meshes may need to be unwrapped in a 3D editor.

Does it show tiled or UDIM UVs?+

Coordinates outside 0–1 are drawn outside the square and cut off. The checker repeats across tiles on the model.
