About STL

Stereolithography

STL describes only the surface of a model as triangles — no colors, materials or textures. It is the default format for 3D printing and slicers.

About OBJ

Wavefront OBJ

OBJ is a simple, widely supported text format for polygon meshes. Materials live in a separate .mtl file and textures in image files; there is no animation.

How it works

  1. 01

Drop the .stl file (with its textures or .bin/.mtl files, if any).

  2. 02

Check the model in the 3D preview; OBJ is already selected.

  3. 03

Click “Convert” and the .obj file downloads.

Questions

Is the STL to OBJ converter free?+

Yes, without limits, sign-up or watermark.

Is my STL file uploaded?+

No. The STL file is read and converted in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

Why are textures missing after converting STL?+

Textures stored as separate files must be selected together with the model. OBJ keeps them only if the format supports textures.
