About PLY
Polygon File Format (Stanford)
PLY (Stanford) stores meshes or point clouds, often with per-vertex colors. It is common for 3D scans and photogrammetry.
About OBJ
Wavefront OBJ
OBJ is a simple, widely supported text format for polygon meshes. Materials live in a separate .mtl file and textures in image files; there is no animation.
How it works
- 01
Drop the .ply file (with its textures or .bin/.mtl files, if any).
- 02
Check the model in the 3D preview; OBJ is already selected.
- 03
Click “Convert” and the .obj file downloads.
Questions
Is the PLY to OBJ converter free?+
Yes, without limits, sign-up or watermark.
Is my PLY file uploaded?+
No. The PLY file is read and converted in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
Why are textures missing after converting PLY?+
Textures stored as separate files must be selected together with the model. OBJ keeps them only if the format supports textures.
