About 3DS

Autodesk 3D Studio

3DS is the legacy Autodesk 3D Studio format: meshes, basic materials and texture references. Many old asset libraries still ship it.

About OBJ

Wavefront OBJ

OBJ is a simple, widely supported text format for polygon meshes. Materials live in a separate .mtl file and textures in image files; there is no animation.

How it works

  1. 01

Drop the .3ds file (with its textures or .bin/.mtl files, if any).

  2. 02

Check the model in the 3D preview; OBJ is already selected.

  3. 03

Click “Convert” and the .obj file downloads.

Questions

Is the 3DS to OBJ converter free?+

Yes, without limits, sign-up or watermark.

Is my 3DS file uploaded?+

No. The 3DS file is read and converted in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

Why are textures missing after converting 3DS?+

Textures stored as separate files must be selected together with the model. OBJ keeps them only if the format supports textures.
