Grown, not modelled

The generator grows each tree from a skeleton: trunk flare, branch angles, the Leonardo thickness rule, sag under weight and age. That is why a realistic oak has the knotty crown of an oak and a pine has whorls of branches.

Bark and leaves

Trees come with bark and leaf textures and alpha-tested leaf cards. At distance the leaves switch to cheaper cards and finally to an impostor.

Age and shape

Set the age to get a sapling, a mature tree or an old giant with a raised crown and dead lower branches. Set a clear trunk height for forests where the hero sees trunks at eye level.

Frequently asked questions

How realistic are the trees?

Branching follows botanical rules for each species, with textures for bark and leaves. They are made for real-time games rather than offline film renders.

Can I change the age of a tree?

Yes. Age changes the structure, not just the size: young trees are slim, old ones have thick trunks and wide crowns.

Do realistic trees have LODs?

Yes, LOD0–LOD3 plus an impostor for the far distance.
